STUDY. According to the latest study by the Architects ‘ Council of Europe (ACE), the average income of architects in the Union working full-time is 32,068 euros. Find out which are the 10 best-placed countries.
32,068 euros is the average income of architects working full-time in the European Union in 2016, according to figures from the biennial survey commissioned by the
Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE). This new edition of the study is based on the responses of 27,000 architects from 27 European countries. The first observation is that the results show that ”
architecture in Europe is a growing profession” , note the authors of the study. The number of architects in Europe is estimated at around 600,000, an increase of 4% since 2014.The study also reveals positive prospects for the profession, including an increase in average income observed in most sizes of architectural firms. Compared to the 2014 study, the average income of architects is 10% higher, a first since the survey was conducted in 2008.France absent from the top 10″
Average salaries have increased in most countries ,” the survey indicates. Luxembourg leads the European countries in terms of average remuneration with €48,725, followed by Austria (€47,529),
Finland (€41,771), Sweden (€41,216) and Ireland (€40,816). In this top 10 of incomes come Denmark (€39,478), the Netherlands (€39,047), the United Kingdom (€38,871), Belgium (€35,481), and Malta (€35,122). In these 10 countries, incomes are therefore above the European average.But where does France stand? French architects slip into 11th place with an average income of €27,986, which is below the European average. Some countries are also doing well and recording the biggest increases between 2014 and 2016, such as Romania (from €9,822 to €15,274), the Czech Republic (from €13,150 to €17,518), Slovenia (from €19,808 to €24,406) and… Luxembourg where income jumped from €48,701 to €58,725. On the other hand, average salaries are lower in a handful of countries, with the biggest drops recorded by architects in Bulgaria (from €9,506 to €6,564), the Netherlands (from €54,496 to €39,047) and Spain (from €28,354 to €24,390).
